What is the difference between an Angel,Impulse,Intimidator,etc.. and my Spyder?
-The difference is that Angels,Impulses,... are completely controlled by electronics, meaning they use electric solenoids to direct air into certain parts of the gun. When you pull the trigger on any of those high end types of guns,The main board is triggered by a "micro-switch" or sometimes an optical beam opening a valve in the solenoid which directs air into a certain part in the "ram".When air gets directed to the back part of that ram,it pushes the shaft in the ram forward opening the valve in the front of the gun(almost like a blowback, but all done automatically)Once the air has been directed to the back, depending on the "dwell" setting(amount of time between when the solenoid sends air into the back of the ram)and then into the front of it pushing the shaft back into place. All that happens when you pull the trigger. On a blowback style gun(Spyder,Tippmann,Pretty much any Brass Eagle gun)You pull the trigger allowing a "sear" to release your hammer, which is powered by a spring.Once the sear lets go,the spring pushes the hammer in the forward position and opens the valve,Now most of the air that comes out of the valve will go up and out your barrel, and some of it will be used to push the hammer back into position behind the sear locking it back into place and awaiting the next pull.
Will an electro-frame make my gun like an angel?
-Not exactly,electro-frames only have electronics in the grip that allow the trigger to release the sear faster,in turn making your gun cycle faster.
What is a regulator?
-A regulator is peice of hardware on your gun that loweres the incoming pressure so that it is at a low enough pressure for your gun to operate.ex. The output pressure on your average CO2 tank is about 750psi,if you didnt have a regulator on your gun to lower that 750psi down to a suitable operating pressure for your gun.All the seals in your gun would probobly break due to over-pressurizing.So a regulator usually brings down that 750psi to around 200psi.
What is a pre-set nitrogen system?
-A preset nitrogen system is a compressed air tank with a fixed output pressure of usually 750-800psi and is not adjustable.
What is the difference between CO2 and Compressed Air(Nitro)?
-CO2 is a liquid, and expands into a gas.Compressed Air is just what it sounds like...Air that is compressed. While using C02 you may notice that your gun gets really cold during rapid fire, and may actually seize up temporarily.Ever take off your CO2 tank and see that fried o-ring?Thats because liquid C02 is really cold, and can break your seals if the liquid comes in contact with them.
Why is Compressed Air better than C02?
-In some cases its not...but compressed air is not a liquid and can make your gun operate more stable & efficient.
What is anti-siphon?
-Anti-Siphon is simply a tube that is in your CO2 tank that only allows the expanded C02 gas to enter your gun. These are cheap and are a good idea if your going to run CO2 on a higher-end gun.
How does an expansion chamber work?
-Like I said before,CO2 is a liquid and needs to expand, sometimes liquid C02 will escape the tank and make its way into your gun.Using an expansion chamber will help because it will expand the liquid that is entering your gun, turning it into a useful gas instead of a liquid which can damage your internals.
What is a "low-pressure" gun?
-A low pressure gun is simply a marker with a lower pressure pushing its bolt forward. At lower pressures this can help with chopping,a bolt being pushed by a very low pressure may just bounce off a ball.At high pressures if a ball were to get caught between the feed neck and the bolt, your bolt would slice right through the paint and blow paint all over, sometimes even trapping shell inbetween the bolt and the body causing your bolt to become jammed into a certain position.
What is an adjustable nitrogen system?
-An adjustable nitrogen system is the same as any other compressed air system, but it allows the user to adjust the output pressure coming out of the tank.A HP adjustable tank can usually be adjusted from 300-800psi.A LP adjustable tank can usually be adjusted from 100-300psi and are mainly used on guns running on a lower operating pressure.
How does an electronic-frame(sear tripper) work?
-An electro-frame is usually an aftermarket, but now sometimes stock upgrade for a blowback type gun. These frames replace older mechanical frames which need atleast a 1/2 inch of pull to release the hammer. In these frames, there is a micro-switch which triggers an electronic motor in the frame replacing the sear allowing faster cycle time between shots.
What is the difference between LED and LCD?
-An LED(Light Emitting Diode) is just a type of light that may be on a frame or somewhere on your gun to help indicate a process. An LCD(Liquid Crystal Display)Is usually a miniature in-grip type of displayed menu that allows visual option changes, and are sometimes easier to work with. Most guns that use LCD's also have game-timers,BPS rating,etc...
What does "BPS" mean?
-BPS simply stands for Balls Per Second. Its the amount of paint shot within a givin amount of time and is the same as "ROF" or Rate of Fire.
What is Macro/Micro line?
-Macro/Micro line is a substitute type of tubing for stainless steel. It consists of two fittings and a plastic tube that connects to both ends of the fittings. The advantage of using macro/micro line is that it is much easier to deal with, especially if you move parts around on your gun often like adding drop-forwards and such.Macro line is the standard sized tubing, and micro line is about half the width.
What is paintball?
Paintball is a sport that invovles firing gelatin capsules filled with a water-based paint pneumatically from a kind of air-rifle called a marker. These capsules are used to mark players during a short round of a type of game. Once a player is "hit", he alerts everyone to the fact that he is now "out" verbally and physically and exits the field.
Is paintball safe?
Suprisingly, paintball is one of the safest sports in the world! It's injury rate is lower than that of bowling and any other contact sport (based on yearly averages). Unlike other sports such as football and soccer, paintball is not a contact sport. If physical contact is made in any un-accidental way, the player making the harmful contact is ejected from the game, if not the field. Now, in order for paintball to be safe, protective devices must be used properly. Two such items are the barrel plug and the mask. The barrel plug is placed (more like jammed) into the end of the barrel before any mask is removed to ensure that any paintballs fired with the barrel plug in place will not exit the marker. The mask is to be worn anytime the barrels are unplugged, protecting the eyes, face, ears, and neck. The lenses on the masks WILL NOT break under normal conditions, although they need to be inspected if they are hit. Finally, there is a speed limit to how fast a paintball can travel. The US limit is 300 feet per second (fps), but most fields keep it under that.
Does it hurt?
Well... this is a tough question to answer. Not wanting to provide those susceptible to mild pain with false information, i can only answer with: somewhat. Take a rubber band and snap yourself with it, that is about what getting hit with a paintball will feel like. Not too bad if you ask me. Sometimes close shots will leave welts or bruises, but they will clear up within 2 days.
Okay, you mentioned games, so what types of games are there?
This variable usually depends on the field you are playing at. Most fields, however, offer most of these game types:
Elimination- Basically, whichever team loses all their players first loses.
Capture the Flag- There is usually a flag in the center of the field. Whichever team removes the flag and carries it back to their starting area wins, although there are variations on this game.
VIP- (aka President) One person is designated as the VIP. He is given some sign that states what he is and has his marker taken away from him. Teams are then split up, and one side protects the VIP, while the other side tries to mark him. When the VIP is hit, the game is over.
What should I wear?
Most professional players, or just experienced players wear jerseys. These clothing itemss wick away sweat and keep you cool, while protecting your skin. However, you don't need these if you are just starting in the sport. If its summer, throw on some dark-colored pants and a longsleeve t-shirt with a t-shirt of a different color ontop of it. Stick to natural colors (green, brown, black, grey), try to not wear anything of the same color. If it's cool outside or winter, wear a sweatshirt with a t-shirt underneath, long pants (perhaps long johns) and thin gloves. You can wear a hat if you wish to protect you from the sun and cover the area on the back of your head where the mask does not protect.
Okay, so I've played a few times and I like it. What should I get for equipment?
Make sure you've played more than once, heck I advise playing 3 times before you purchase anything. If you're ready, hold your horses about purchasing a marker, get a mask first. Make sure you get a nice and comfortable mask, one with dual lenses and adequate venting and coverage. You will not regret it. Now, if you want to purchase a marker, I would suggest something on the low-end side of the market. Get a Spyder (Compact, TL Plus, Xtra) or a Tippman (Pro-Carbine or Model 98 Custom), maybe look into other markers such as those made by ACI (Griffen) or the Black Dragun. Get to know the marker well, and learn how it operates. This will help you a bunch in the future. You will need a source of air, look into CO2 tanks, a 12oz or a 16oz should be plenty. 20oz in my opinion, are rather heavy and bulky.
